What Do Your Apps Say About You?

Whether you’re new to the app world or an experienced app’er, the apps on your smartphone say a lot about you. Read on to find your app personality.

Social Butterfly

If an app has anything to do with social networking, it’s on your smartphone. Aside from the usual suspects like Facebook and LinkedIn, you’ve also added TweetDeck, Tweetie, HootSuite and Seesmic apps. You name it — you’ve tried it when it comes to managing your social life, which means you’re off the beaten social media path chasing the promises of social apps like Facebook Revolution, Omegle or Plurkid. If you have more than two social networking apps — take a tip from the “App Connoisseur” and download apps that keep your smartphone from being all work and no play.

Self-Improvement Guru

You’re always trying to make yourself a little better and your apps are no different. Whether it’s boosting your retirement savings, loosing those extra five pounds or writing that novel — you’re looking for apps that help you reach your goals. Apps like Todo, iFitness and ExpenseTracker call for you. But just as you have to abandon your shelf of productivity self-help books — at some point you have to stop planning and start doing. Just like social networking addicts need rehab, these productivity apps can be time warps so limit your reviews with them to no more than three times a day.

App Commitment-Phobe

You’re not new to the world of mobile apps but no one could tell from your scantily clad mobile phone. It’s virtually naked of apps. You’re hesitant to make the app download leap. You will only consider an app if at least three trusted sources have recommended it to you. Forget the app reviews of strangers, you need to verify. But even when an app comes recommended from friends and passes the download hurdle, you’re quick to toss it if it doesn’t immediately deliver ROI. And we’re not talking financial ROI. We’re talking about the space an app takes up on your screen and how often you use it. If you don’t use an app at least three times a week, you drop it like a bad habit. App tip — swap smartphones with a friend for 20 minutes and “try” before you “buy” to get a taste of the apps you’re missing.

App Connoisseur

Your friends hear about the latest apps from you — just like the hot new flicks, music and tech gear. When it comes to apps, novelty without regards to functionality is your trigger. The cool factor draws you in for apps like POW (dedicated to making the “pow” sound effect as needed), More Toast! (which lets you decorate toast graphics with shapes and various toppings) and iGun ( a gun graphic with blast sounds for virtual “gun slingin”). Sadly, you don’t use most of the apps you’ve downloaded since each week brings new apps that demand your attention. App tip — let the blue jeans from high school go. If you haven’t used an app in the last three months, delete it. Oh, and try keeping a running tab on all of the money you’ve spent on deleted apps to keep your app reflex in check.

Practical Apper

Forget the games. You want to know if your flight will be delayed, if the weather forecast calls for rain and how to make Jamie Oliver’s latest recipe in under 20 minutes. Yes, you see apps like FlightTrack and WeatherBug, as a tool for daily living. If friends browse through your smartphone, they’ll probably fall asleep. Take a tip from the App Connoisseur and download at least one fun app for every five bores.
